Music, music, music
The little orchestra continues to meet once a week. Lez is improving on the clarinet and took grade 6 on the oboe in the summer - passing with distinction again! She was also given the opportunity of playing clarinet and saxophone in a band for a Gang Show. The saxophone was borrowed and she had just 3 weeks in which to learn to play it before the show! Andrew hasn't progressed any further with the theory yet, although he hopes to carry on again soon and maybe take grade 2 next year.
In August Lez went to Summer School for a week playing the clarinet. It was great fun. There were concerts every lunchtime and evening to attend, plus various rehearsals and masterclasses during the day. People were so friendly. Knowing that everyone had music in common made it easy to make friends.
This year has seen a number of redundancies at Lez's work, UCCF. One of those who left was her boss, so she has had a lot more hassle for the latter half of the year with people coming to her with their computer problems.
Andrew has been getting lots of hassle this year since a new computer system was installed at the Leicester University Bookshop. there seems to be een more work than usual and the new computer still has quirks which don't help.
Cruising Up North!
Our holiday on the narrowboat was: hard work (working the locks), fun (working the locks, getting stuck, turning round, etc), exhausting (all that fresh air), wet (it rained), very wet (Andrew fell in), cold (it was freezing), warm (once we'd got the coal stove to light!), disappointing (we didn't make it to Chester by boat), exciting (we made it to Chester by car), smelly (the loo blocked - three times!) etc, etc. I could go on, but there was so much in this holiday. At the end we decided it was a good holiday, although very exhausting and next time we'll take someone with us to share the work!
ToDIY or tomorrow?
Throughout this year we have managed to paint the front room, paint outside the kitchen, put up a tool cupboard, finish the front door, put down some carpet tiles in the office, fit our phone onto the wall, put up a shower curtain, insulate the attic door, put up the shower again after it fell down, put on a new front door bell, mended the washing machine and put up a brass sign on the office door. With the car Andrew has changed the oil (twice) replaced the solenoid jet and stopped the sump leaking. It didn't seem as though we were doing very much, but having just put it all down, it seems like we did a lot! There is still the office to be decorated, and the kitchen still needs one or two things doing to it. Perhaps next year..?
As you might have guessed, there is a lot that we've missed out. This year has been busy, but we've not had any major upsets. Maybe we will manage a summer newsletter next year ... then again, perhaps we'll just talk to you again next Christmas. Goodbye for now.
